The course studies the fundamental biological principles with an emphasis on biochemistry and homeostasis (the active balancing process in living organisms). Major topics include cell structure and function, genetics, human physiology, photosynthesis and respiration, botany, animal behavior, ecology and evolution. Laboratory is an integral part of this course including the twelve required AP labs. Current events on biological developments supplement the text. The equivalent of an introductory college-level Biology course, AP Bio is designed to prepare students for the AP exam and for further study in science.
