In Pre-First, Language Arts is integrated into all aspects of the day. Students are challenged with a multi-sensory approach that gradually gives way to more structure, more specific instruction, and higher level critical thinking. The curriculum revolves around the receptive language activities of reading and listening and the expressive activities of speaking and writing. Phonics, creative writing, poetry, and drama build skills and independent reading and writing. The Pre-First curriculum bridges the gap from Kindergarten Saxon Phonics to First grade Saxon Phonics. Writing is carefully integrated with reading and the girls are presented with numerous opportunities to express themselves by writing stories, journals, descriptions, lists, summaries, opinions, books, and poems.
