This semester course provides students with an in-depth exploration of the non-performance side of the theatre process. From initial readings and play analysis through hands-on designs and projects, all elements of production are explored. Class discussions and design projects will reinforce the thinking skills of collaboration and creativity. Selected readings, videos and visual presentations will invite students to use their critical thinking skills to develop and demonstrate theories and concepts through practical applications. Students will take on roles as designers, dramaturges and stage managers as they work on two major Upper School productions during the course: the Winter Musical and the Fall/Spring Play. This course is ideal for the student who is curious about the “behind the scenes” process of theatre.
