This course is for students who have completed at least Latin III. Whether preparing for the AP exam or as further study, Latin Literature presents a variety of authors and genres within the context of Roman history to sharpen both the translating and critical thinking skills of students. As a course that is cross-listed with the History department, Latin Literature will treat the primary texts as a window into Roman history and culture drawn from the first century BCE through the first century CE. Latin passages and related English readings will relate to a specific theme each semester; assignments will encourage students to analyze and evaluate Latin texts in the way they have approached historical documents in English.
