This course explores basic elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, timbre, and form. In addition, basic keyboard skills are developed during this course. Students will analyze music, write basic compositions, study musical history and explore varied styles of music. Students will also develop their aural skills and tonal memory through melodic dictation, analytical-listening periods, and sight-singing.
Successful students are able to read standard music notation and have basic musicianship skills in voice or on an instrument.
